Bill Grove, the owner of the Henn Theatre, has announced a very special offer on Facebook.

Family fun in downtown Murphy, NC.

One night only!

While Parker’s Drug Store is the newest business to be added to MurphyGold.com, it is not a new business in Murphy, NC.

I was talking to Tony Godfrey about this a couple of days ago, and he showed me two photos that are posted near the pharmacy in the downtown store. One shows Parker’s Drugs in a different building (taken in 1910) and the other shows the store in its current location, and that photo was taken in 1919. So, sometime between 1910 and 1919, Parker’s Drug Store opened in its current location in the heart of downtown Murphy, NC.

Parker’s Drug Store is owned by Tony Godfrey and Jody Lee. You’ll usually find Tony working in the downtown location and Jody working in the Parker’s At Peachtree location, near Murphy Medical Center (hospital and nursing home).

The pharmacists and staff at Parker’s Drug Store have helped generations of customers deal with health problems, and my family is just one of their many satisfied customers.

In addition to prescription drugs and over-the-counter medications, you’ll also find health supplies and equipment, gifts, cards, perfumes and colognes, and a very popular snack bar in their downtown location.

There are many reasons that were important when we decided to invite them to join Murphy Gold and we are happy to have Parker’s Drug Store as our most recent member.

Welcome to Tim Radford and WKRK Radio, the newest members of Murphy Gold.

WKRK provides a valuable service to our community. Where do we turn when we want the latest information about severe weather, hazardous road conditions, school and business closings and delays, news, sports, and more? WKRK Radio, that’s where.

In addition to providing a great service along with country gold and southern gospel music, Tim works hard to keep people updated on WKRK’s Community Bulletin Board on Facebook. Thousands of listeners like that page and there is always a lot of interaction from his fans when Tim posts something.

For those reasons, and others too numerous to mention, Tim was invited to join Murphy Gold, and we are very happy that he accepted.

Dena Howard, owner and lead photographer at Images By Courtnie Photography, in downtown Murphy, NC, has announced that she has selected Stacy S. Howard as the new portrait design consultant.

In a related bit of news, I want to congratulate Connie Dockery Beaver, the previous portrait design consultant at Images By Courtnie, for acting on her dream of opening her own business. She is busily preparing to open her bakery and is currently taking orders for delicious pies, cakes, cookies, and more, prior to the actual opening.

Look for Connie’s Confections to open in October, 2011, across the street from The Sweet Tooth and the NC Employment Security Commission office, a little over a half-mile east of downtown Murphy.

I’ve tasted some of Connie’s cakes and I’m looking forward to visiting her bakery when it opens.

Her new studio is located in the heart of downtown Murphy, NC above Parker’s Drug Store. The new address is 13 Peachtree Street, and you can get to her studio by going to the pocket park to the right of Parker’s Drug Store and entering through the door at the rear of the building.
