Theresa Victa, owner and operator of Mountain Spirit Essentials, announced a Customer Appreciation Day and Fundraiser on Saturday, September 5, 2009 from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm.

The event will be held at their location of 35 Tennessee Street, Murphy, NC 28906, right in historic downtown Murphy.

There will be prizes, gift bags, samples, raffles, food, refreshments, and surprises.

Ninth Annual Heritage Walk and Festival - Arts and Crafts Show Now Taking Applications

On Saturday, September 5, 2009, Heritage Partners of Cherokee County will host the Ninth Annual Heritage Walk and Festival in Konehete Part, Murphy, NC.

Local area artists and crafters are invited to visit the Heritage Walk and Festival website and download an application form in PDF format. (See the left column right next to “Arts & Crafts Show” for the link.)

Original artwork, hand-made items only. No imports or commercial goods will be approved.

No electrical service will be provided.

$25 application fee.

Your completed application form and check must be received by the August 8, 2009 deadline.

I created a social networking site for Murphy, NC on ning.com a few weeks ago at MurphyNC28906.ning.com. You can still reach it at that address, but now it has a new name: Murphy Connections.

Along with a new name, it has a new domain: MurphyConnections.com.

Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast - Murphy, NC 28906 - January 21, 2008

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast is set for 8:00 AM on Monday, January 21, 2008, at the Texana Community Center.

The guest speaker will be the Rev. Louis Grant from Asheville.

Tickets for adults are $5, children under 11 are $2.50. Tickets will be sold at the door the morning of the breakfast.

Fourth of July Hometown Celebration - Murphy, NC 28906 - July 4, 2007

Come celebrate Independence Day in downtown Murphy, NC and in Konehete Park on Wednesday, July 4, 2007.

Events will be held all day from 8:00 am until after dark when you can watch the Grand Finale Fireworks Show!

You’ll find tasty food and refreshing drinks for sale, and your family can enjoy a full day of activities. Arts and crafts will be on sale by our talented artists and you can purchase perfect gifts for friends and family - or for yourself!

11:00 am: Fishing tournament in the park

12:00 noon: Peanut drop in the park

Fifth Annual Dog Parade and Show - Murphy, NC 28906 - July 4, 2007

The fifth annual Dog Parade and Show will begin at 10:00 am on Wednesday, July 4, 2007, sponsored by Lisa DiCuffa of Century 21 Foxfire Realty Group.

Entrants will meet at Wings and Things, located near Murphy Elementary School, in Murphy, North Carolina.

The entry fee is $5.00.

Proceeds will benefit the Valley River Humane Society. Lisa serves on the Advisory Board of the Valley River Humane Society and donates $100.00 to them on every real estate sale.

Fourth of July Hometown Celebration - Murphy, NC 28906 - July 4, 2007

The Business Women of Murphy, in conjunction with the Cherokee County Recreation Department and Town of Murphy, are organizing a Fourth of July Hometown Celebration that will begin at 8:00 am with a 5K run and end with a spectacular fireworks display at 10:00 pm.

A dog show and parade, organized by Lisa DiCuffa, will take place downtown, followed by a kids “wheels and walking” parade and a float parade.

Other events will take place at Konehete Park, including a fishing tournament, field games, live music on two stages, a men’s softball tournament, car show, peanut drop, food booths, and, of course, the grand finale - a fireworks show.

The Business Women of Murphy are looking for corporate sponsors, crafters, and food vendors who would like to take part in this fun family event.

Scout troops, 4-H, or any organization or club that wants to march or have a float in the parade may call Linda Hurd, parade organizer, at 828-361-3707.

Fish Fry and Boat Show - Murphy, NC 28906 - Saturday, June 23, 2007

The Cherokee County NC Chamber of Commerce is planning its first Fish Fry and Boat Show in hopes of “reeling in tourists and new chamber members,” chamber Executive Director Sande Kimball said.

The boating extravaganza is set for Saturday, June 23, 2007 at the TVA boat ramp in downtown Murphy, NC. Activities will spill over into the L&N Depot on Hiawassee Street.

The show will open at 10:00 am and end at 4:00 pm. There is no cost to attend.

Fish sandwiches, cole slaw, and a drink will be served between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm. The fish fry will be $6.00 per person.

The Longhouse Restaurant is doing the fish fry for this event to benefit the chamber.

Participating in the boat show so far are Smith Power, Nick’s Marine, High Country Canvas, and Appalachian Outfitters.

Some vendors will have boats in the water and will give demonstrations.

While in town for the boat show, Kimball said to be sure to walk into the historic downtown area of Murphy, where many businesses will be open, including a farmers market, gift and antique shops, restaurants, and more.
