Liz Melendez, an independent recording and performing artist, will appear at 7:00 pm Saturday, June 30, 2007, as part of the Live Blues On the Greens series at The Longhouse Restaurant at Cherokee Hills Golf Club.

She will perform two one-hour sets and one 30-minute set during the evening.

Sensational Days Salon and Spa, a complete beauty treatment facility, welcomes licensed esthetician Debra LaRosa to the staff.

Besides offering traditional skin services such as facials, body waxing, and body treatments, LaRosa has several specialty areas.

Certified in microdermabrasion, her specialties of age management and acne treatments will incorporate use of machine and light therapy, along with an appropriate skin care program. Using her roots as a college art major, she also will specialize in customized makeup artistry and application.

Along with this, LaRosa’s more than 20 years of experience with several cosmetic companies will be put to good use. Her goal is to help women move beyond intimidation or stagnation with makeup by learning how to best accentuate their features.

To further train in this area of makeup application, LaRosa participated this past spring in a hands-on class under the guidance of a professional makeup artist, whose work included models, actresses, and magazine cover models.

Whether it be through traditional skin care services, customized skin-care needs, individualized makeup application, or through a consultation visit, LaRosa looks forward to being of service.

Robin Kolar, owner of Designer’s Alley, has been certified as a state instructor of cosmetology.

Kolar also earned an associate’s degree in science with a 4.0 grade point average. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa with honors and was elected to Who’s Who Among Students in America’s Junior Colleges.

She has been appointed to teach a course for nail technicians this fall at Tri-County Community College in the Peachtree community of Cherokee County, NC. The classes will meet from 5:00 pm until 10:00 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Aside from operating a successful beauty salon and spa, Kolar also finds time to be an educator for Pravana Corp., instructing other salon owners and cosmetologists.

Her salon, on US 64 West, employs six staff cosmetologists and a massage therapist.

Fame Conley, a sales associate at the Cherokee Scout for over two years, was named an advertising All-Star during Community Newspaper Inc.’s annual advertising meeting on March 9, 2007.

She also helped the Cherokee Scout earn first place for Increase in Display Ads.

Of the 30 newspapers in CNI, only eight sales associates received All-Star recognition for 2006, and two of them were from the Murphy Region.

On May 1, 2007, Thomas Roskelly joined the Cherokee Scout as a sales associate.

He has an extensive background in newspaper advertising. Roskelly was the classified advertising manager of the St. Petersburg (Florida) Times and Evening Independent, retail advertising manager of the Lakeland (Florida) Ledger, and corporate advertising director for the new York Times Affiliated Group in Florida.

He also served as advertising and marketing director for several businesses.

Roskelly will work with Sales Manager Donna Cook and Sales Associate Fame Conley on the Cherokee Scout’s sales team.
